New Study Will Genetically Profile AERD Patients

Updated: Sep 5, 2021

Scripps Clinic in San Diego has announced an exciting new study for Aspirin Exacerbated Respiratory Disease (AERD, Samter's Triad) patients. Dr. Brian Modena, the lead researcher for this study, says, "I truly believe we are getting close to discovering the genetic roots of asthma. AERD provides an ideal, homogeneous group to study first." With this goal, Scripps has recently received NIH funding to study the genes associated with AERD. This study will involve obtaining the full genetic profiles of AERD patients who participate. This research may have important findings that will lead to new treatment options for the disease in the future.

Patients in the San Diego area who are interested in participating can email info@samterssociety.org for more information. Study participants will have blood drawn and nasal swabs completed as part of the study.
